Utah's Pornicopia

If you don't know the culture, it just doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, if this is a hot button topic for you, scroll on down to a different post because this is just gonna make you angry... and I don't want anyone committing one of the Seven Deadly Sins all because of my two cents...

For those not privy to Utah Headlines... In the entire United States of America (and Puerto Rico...) Utahns get the dubious bragging rights as the NUMBER ONE downloader of SUBSCRIPTION Online Porn Sites. (IE, I pay for pornography!)

I quote the Deseret News... "That's the conclusion of a Harvard economics professor who tracked subscriptions to online porn sites. Utah ranks No. 1 in subscriptions, according to Benjamin Edelman, who reported his findings in the article "Red Light States: Who Buys Online Adult Entertainment?," published in the most recent edition of the Journal of Economic Perspectives."

This is a published article. I think a Harvard statistician knows what he's doing... especially before publishing a paper with his name and his institution's name on it... especially on a hot-button topic like this is. Correlation does not imply causation, but the fact remains that Utahns are paying for porn at a higher rate per capita than any other state in the nation. Not just viewing all the loads of free stuff out there, PAYING for it. We can also conclude this. Regardless of whether the payment of online porn is higher in "red" or "blue" states, the state with the highest LDS population is also the highest for paying for porn online. No statistics class can tear that data apart, and someone who has not taken a college level statistics class might try.

That same article states that Deseret News reporter Lee Davidson in 2007 found that Utahns were more prone to search for words like "topless" and "pornography, " as well as "Jesus" and "home storage."

One more tidbit, as I continue to quote. "Subscriptions are slightly more prevalent in states that have enacted conservative legislation on sexuality," Edelman writes. In the 27 states where "defense of marriage" amendments have been adopted, there were 11 percent more porn subscribers than in other states, he reports. (So when do I get to vote on their marriages?) Use is higher also in states where more people agree with the statement "I never doubt the existence of God."

Side note... more polarity but it just popped in my head and I think it interesting... One of the highest inventory shrink items at Deseret Books is the Scriptures. That's a fact.

It's no newsflash and I fully own the fact that I'm not perfect. I just don't have a problem being human... Besides, the way I see it, we aren't human beings trying to have a spiritual experience. Rather, we are profoundly spiritual beings just trying to have a human experience... ITNOJCAmen.
